    When typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on November 8 2013, Internews' Humanitarian Team was deployed to Guiuan, Eastern Samar, to set up Radyo Bakdaw ("Rise"), which provided emergency information to the citizens of Guiuan. The station went live on November 26, providing news and information to people in the aftermath of the typhoon until May 2014.

    LONDON, 21 January 2015 (IRIN) - When Typhoon Haiyan swept across the central Philippines in November 2013, the subsequent emergency response was a test case for the aid industry's aspiration to be accountable to affected populations.

    The phrase became a term of art, with its own initials, AAP, and in the early days of the response the UN appointed its first ever AAP Coordinator.

    Fishermen Guillermo and Sosimo are live on Radyo Bakdaw’s Livelihoods program reporting to Cristina, their financial advisor, that they have beaten the savings target she set for them last week. Cristina is taking them through a process of learning how to budget, save and make investment decisions as part of an effort to help residents of Guiuan in the Philippines get back on their feet.

    The hope is that Guillermo and Sosimo will serve as role models for listeners.

    Participants of the Humanitarian Broadcasting Training in the city have expressed their thanks to the experienced lecturer Mr. John Tuckey for an impressive lecture on two modules held recently at the Communitaire Office, Brgy. Calanipawan, Tacloban City.

    Participants who came from various government agencies were very thankful to Tuckey as they gained more knowledge in the training.
