Community / Audience Survey Report – Eastern Samar, Phillippines

Reports & Surveys

To find out the impact of Radio Bakdaw and discover what types of information listeners are looking for, Internews conducted an audience survey of people living in the municipalities of the Philippines most affected by Typhoon Haiyan (known locally as Typhoon Yolanda), who also have reception of the radio station.

More than half of all respondents queried said they listened to Radio Bakdaw, mostly for weather reports, news and information about aid distributions. The main reason for not listening was due to lack of a functioning radio.

Seventy percent of those who listen to Radio Bakdaw say they have taken action based on what they heard. This mainly meant sharing information with someone else, but also included securing a job and solving an immediate problem.

Housing information was the main thing that listeners wanted more information about, including distribution of housing materials, re-building and relocation.
