Nataliya Gumenyuk, Fighting the Propaganda War in Ukraine

Nataliya Gumenyuk is a Ukrainian reporter and co-founder of Hromadske TV, an independent online source of news. In 2015, she became director of the network. Nataliya believes that journalists must guard the truth and provide the public with objective information to counteract the propaganda coming from the Kremlin.

“Who are the people who have no voice in this conflict?” asks Nataliya. “The ordinary people, the ordinary Ukrainian citizens. And there is nobody else but journalists who can provide them with this opportunity.
“We are in the time of clear information war, when information is used as a weapon. What the Kremlin does — it plays this post-modern game of relativity. When…everything is an opinion. The truth is non-existent. There is something journalists do — they provide people with information.”

In 2015 Nataliya was named Director of the Hromadske Network. Internews supports the institutional development of Hromadske, and funds the network’s flagship investigative journalism TV program.
