Earth Journalism Network Asia-Pacific Media and Story Grants

The Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) Asia-Pacific project announced two competitive grant opportunities in the beginning of the year. The Media Grants are available to media and other environmental information generating organizations to support their creation, growth, and capacity building. These grants aim to improve the overall quantity and quality of news coverage of climate change, natural resources and the environment. The Story Grants are targeted at individual journalists to support the production of in-depth stories that can empower communities at risk from the impacts of environmental and climate change.

We received a total of 77 applications for media grants and 79 for story grants with good representation across the region. Two judging panels consisting of Internews EJN staff reviewed the proposals, deliberated and shortlisted applications for interviews. After all the interviews were completed, the panel convened again to select the final grantees based on three primary considerations:

  • The quality of ideas;
  • The fit with the grant objectives;
  • Financial feasibility of the project, based on the budget.

The judging panel selected 12 organizations for the media grants and 28 journalists for the Story Grants.
