The role of media in preventing violent extremism
Internews' Europe & Eurasia team is hosting an international forum in Almaty, Kazakhstan to discuss the role of media in preventing radicalization leading to violence in Central Asia, share experiences of implementing related media projects and initiatives, and review the lessons learned and opportunities to adapt successful media practices in the countries of the region.
The forum is part of Internews' project – "Contributing to stability and peace in Central Asia," financed by the European Union. The project focuses on national and regional efforts to prevent radicalization in Central Asia by increasing the capacity of journalists, civic activists and media professionals (through training activities, workshops at both the national and regional level, and innovation laboratories) in the production of high-quality media content. It also aims to make representatives of civil society, decision-makers and the public more critical media consumers.
