Webinar: Reporting on COVID-19 in Southern Africa

Tuesday, April 21, 2020 - 10:00am to 11:30am
Online webinar

Tuesday, April 21, 10AM Pretoria / 11AM Nairobi

With Internews Health Advisor Ida Jooste, the International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), WHO, and BBC World Action.

The COVID-19 outbreak and response has been accompanied by a massive ‘infodemic’ – an over-abundance of information – some accurate and some not – that makes it hard for people to find trustworthy sources and reliable guidance when they need it. Not only that, a lot of messaging has been global in nature, and has had little relevance to the southern African context, its cultural practices and the socio-economic challenges that the region faces.

Through a 1,5 hour webinar, media can engage with communication experts working on the COVID-19 outbreak in southern Africa, to discuss the challenge to report accurate information, provide public reassurance, promote calm and motivate people to take action to protect themselves and their communities.
