Amidst the polarizing public distrust, aided and abated by misinformation, threats to press freedom take on a new dimension as journalists face challenges in their coverage of COVID-19. In the wake of emergency laws in Asia, as governments try to control the narrative about the disease that is ravaging the world in a pandemic, journalists now are in the firing line. At the same time in ensuring that authorities provide accurate and up-to-date information about the virus, journalists have a moral obligation to ensure their reporting does no harm. How do journalists in the region now navigate these complexities?
