Asad Jan has been associated with the Pakistani and international media sector since 2003, principally as a journalist and media development specialist. For the last nine years, he has worked on development strategies for the Pakistani media including radio, TV, print and public universities, as the country’s media transitions from a heavily state-controlled sector to one more pluralistic.

Jan has been involved in advocacy and promoting media development issues including improving access to information, media legal reforms, conducting physical and digital security trainings for working journalists, building news and information capacities of the broadcast sector, and improving media standards.

Prior to his current position as Country Director for Internews Pakistan, Jan led the office as Deputy/Acting Country Director for more than two years. Previously he worked with Equal Access International as Director of Media and Communications.

Earlier Jan supervised Internews Peshawar office and managed its program implementation in KPK and FATA. He also worked with the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization as Communications Specialist & Spokesperson and Senior Media officer with Creative Associates.

Having a passion for media, Jan studied Journalism across the globe. He received a Netherlands fellowship in 2013 for “Using media for Development,” and received his masters in Journalism & Mass Communication from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan. 

Jan also worked as professional journalist and worked with Pakistan’s leading media groups as a staff reporter for more than six years.
