London, 5 June 2025 – Internews is delighted to announce the launch of an innovative climate and business reporting project in Asia with the support of Laudes Foundation. The project will enable Internews’ Earth Journalism Network to support climate reporting by business journalists in Asia through the Business & Climate Media Initiative. The project will specifically provide backing to those reporting on business engagement with climate change and a just transition in Asia.
The project recognises the key role businesses can play in helping the countries they operate in achieve their Net Zero goals and aims to give journalists and media outlets the resources they need to hold the private sector to account. It will also give journalists tools to report on climate financing and just transitions.
“The media plays a vital role in raising awareness among the public and decision makers on the role of businesses in supporting climate solutions and holding them to account for their actions,” said Meera Selva, Internews Europe CEO. “This project will empower local journalists to effectively investigate the critical issues where business and climate intersect, ensuring communities are informed and equipped to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.”
Over two years, this project will focus on building the capacity of more than 200 local journalists in countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand with the resources necessary to provide coverage on issues such as:
- The economic benefits of addressing climate change
- Corporate greenwashing
- Gaps in ESG frameworks (related to the transparency of carbon pricing and regulations mandating disclosure of climate-related risks and emissions)
- The lack of policy support for blended finance
- Investment in innovative solutions and technologies
“Achieving a carbon-neutral world requires us to inform the global community, especially decision makers, of the role of businesses in addressing climate action,” said Amy Sim, Regional Program Manager for Asia-Pacific (Environment) at Internews. “With this support, we can build a robust network of journalists across climate, environmental, business and finance beats, who can contribute significantly to the discourse on sustainability and transition with high-quality reporting, and ensure businesses and policymakers stick to their commitments.”
