For Media, a Reason to Hope

Global media is at a turning point – more brittle and susceptible to abuse than ever before. Still, we have reason to hope.

Internews President Jeanne Bourgault offers lessons from the organization’s 35 years of work building healthy and responsive media environments around the world.

The one thing we find in every country is a thirst for trusted news. In fact, the goal of much of the fake news is not to make people believe in falsehood but rather to make them question the truth.

We need to focus on building trusted information. Real news is strong, actionable local content. It’s journalists engaging with their communities and being inclusive of their communities. We can unleash the power of human potential everywhere by turning on the bright light of information.

Information matters to all of us.
