This Information Ecosystem Assessment (IEA) report provides an assessment of the media landscape in Jordan – examining key issues emerging around media usage, trust, content, and literacy, from the perspective of audiences. It is based on data that was collected throughout June and July 2023; the media landscape may have changed since the war in Gaza began.
Through its exploration into the media consumption habits of Jordanians (including women, youth, and persons with disabilities), this report provides unique insights into how and why Jordanians are accessing and engaging with different types of media. Many of the findings are aligned with global patterns and preferences for media platforms and content, which speaks to the increasing influence of technology and declining availability of relevant public interest content. In the Jordanian context, where security and political stability are of high priority, this is having a significant impact on trust in journalism and perceptions of civic agency. Following the recent general election in Jordan – and with a new government poised to deal with the fallout from regional instability, economic and political reforms – it is critical that the media and journalists understand how best to provide citizens with the information they need, at this critical time.
