Assessment of Citizen Needs and Understanding of the Political System in Haiti

This assessment was conducted by Internews and Policité between November 2023 and February 2024. The study sought to better understand Haitian’s perspectives on and interest in the political system and identify factors that hinder civic participation in eventual Haitian elections. The data for the assessment was collected via a survey conducted both online and in person between January 2 and January 30, 2024, across the ten departments of Haiti. The survey aimed to gain insights into citizens’ views on Haiti’s political system, electoral process, participation levels, societal needs, and access to information. In addition to identifying key factors that may limit civic engagement in upcoming Haitian elections, the analysis also provides actionable insights to inform Haitian and international actors’ decision-making and programming.
