Internews has been working with independent media in Tajikistan since 1996, including training print, broadcast, and online journalists, supporting quality, engaging local content production in Russian and Tajik, assisting advocacy efforts to promote legal change, and encouraging the adoption of new technologies, formats, and techniques in the newsroom. Other areas of focus in Tajikistan include: capacity building for media support organizations and associations; media literacy curricula, trainings, and campaigns to improve critical thinking and resilience to disinformation; youth engagement initiatives to promote diverse local voices; building a network of citizen reporters across all regions; raising the profile of media criticism and professional media standards; advancing the field of data-driven journalism; capacity-building in conflict-sensitive reporting and communications with the public; and countering misinformation, disinformation, xenophobia and stigma towards vulnerable groups affected by COVID-19.
