Internews entered Timor Leste to support local organizations to provide quality information right when it was most needed – as the country began its post-independence development. Internews provided technical training, such as reporting on elections and political reporting, as we contributed to building the capacity of journalists working in newspaper, radio, photojournalism, and more. Furthermore, Internews worked closely with the Timor Leste Media Development Center to become the preeminent media development organization that continues to strengthen local media outlets to this day.
Internews’ Earth Journalism Network supported partner Fundasaun Media Development Centre to train young journalists on environmental reporting and established a Timor-Leste Media and Environment Network to encourage knowledge sharing among journalists.
