Internews first worked in Uzbekistan in 1995, supporting nascent private TV stations to produce quality, objective news. While Internews no longer has an office in the country, the reforms of President Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan’s first new post-Soviet ruler who came to power in 2016, have allowed us to offer a variety of assistance for improvement of the country’s media and information space. This includes trainings, mentorship, and support for independent media, journalists, and other content producers (including bloggers, young activists, and citizen reporters) for production of high-quality content on socially important issues in modern formats, with a focus on conflict-sensitive reporting and media literacy.
