Andrew is Director of Internews’ Global Technology Hub (GTH). The GTH is Internews’ in-house solution to providing direct technological support to media and other information providers often operating in some of the most embattled environments. GTH helps Internews partners develop their internal capacity to defend themselves from digital attacks, improve privacy, safety and security, and counter censorship or poor connectivity to access and publish to the Internet. GTH’s aim is to support Internews partners establish reliable and sustainable digital practices that will help improve their work’s reach and impact.
He has worked across media, commercial, nonprofit and NGO sectors in the US, UK and elsewhere. He worked in community journalism for 10 years as a reporter and editor, and later consulted on digital transformation projects for media and civil society. From 2011 onward, Andrew has been working in digital safety and information security support with journalists, activists, and civil society, developing online resources, running courses and workshops and leading various programs and initiatives. He’s worked with Rory Peck Trust, supporting frontline freelance journalists, and has in the past run workshops and training sessions with Reuters Foundation, The Centre for Investigative Journalism, and the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy.
From the U.S. Northwest, Andrew graduated from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. He lives in London, UK.
