Mary Trussell is a retired Big 4 insurance audit and advisory partner with a 30+ year career across multiple geographies. Expert in navigating changing business environments, regulations and standards and delivering transformational change. Combines strategic and financial experience with a sound understanding of financial oversight, risk management, culture, and diversity. Accomplished at influencing and advising across Boards and Committees, now extending into non-executive board roles. Mary currently serves as a Non-Executive Director, chair of Audit Committee and member of Risk Committee, for Tokio Marine Syndicates Limited.
Mary was KPMG’s Global Lead Partner for Insurance Accounting Change. She brought deep expertise covering the entire range of insurance markets, from life and health and personal lines to specialty risks and reinsurance, across Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. Having spent most of her career based in London, Mary moved to Hong Kong in 2009, to Toronto in 2014, to Germany in 2017 and most recently back to the UK in 2019. In addition to her audit responsibilities, Mary focuses on advising clients on how they can best address the challenges of financial reporting, regulatory change and improving performance. She regularly speaks on financial reporting, governance and regulatory matters affecting insurers as well as more general business developments. Mary has particular experience advising clients as they undertake M&A activity or enter new markets and has assisted a number of companies with IPOs, securities listings and demutualization. Furthermore she has advised a number of financial services regulatory authorities on regulatory policy and practice, using her experience advising insurers on governance, enterprise-wide risk management and capital management, most recently assisting a number of financial conglomerates in the run up to Solvency II. As a member of KPMG’s Global Insurance Leadership team, Mary focussed particularly on Innovation and Insurance Accounting Change and lead the development of many of KPMG International’s global thought leadership for the insurance industry.
