The Liberia Media Development (LMD) project aims to increase Liberians’ access to independent and reliable information. To do this, Internews is establishing a network of media resource centers, to ensure that local journalists have access to the equipment and resources they need to do their job professionally. These centers will also serve as training hubs and locations for community events.
The LMD program enables, equips and empowers local media in Liberia to access the tools and knowledge that will increase their sustainability, incorporate a plurality of voices in their media products, and improve their professional skills and standards. The work of the Internews team and partners involves supporting local media and citizens to advocate for and achieve a strengthened legal enabling environment for media. The program also supports the Independent Information Commission (IIC) by providing it with the tools and resources to respond transparently to information requests from citizens and media institutions.
