India-based reporter and 2019 Bay of Bengal story grantee Nidhi Jamwal recently received a senior freelance environmental journalist award from the Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme. Through her grant, provided with the support of the Climate Justice Resilience Fund, Jamwal produced three in-depth stories looking at fishers lost during Cyclone Ockhi and how that disaster has pushed the government to develop devices and communication systems that can better protect fishers from extreme weather.
The award letter, which Jamwal received in late November, highlighted her prowess for environmental journalism, stating: “She writes in-depth reports and is an adept storyteller. Her reporting on climate change is vivid and has the capacity to stimulate action.”
