Internews Europe is delighted to announce Jodie Ginsberg has been appointed as the organisation’s new chief executive.
A former journalist, Jodie brings a wealth of experience working in and on behalf of the media sector worldwide. She joins from global freedom of expression group Index on Censorship, where she has held the role of chief executive. Jodie began her career at Thomson Reuters where she worked for more than a decade and held positions including UK Bureau Chief.
A recognised expert on issues of media freedom, Jodie sits on the global council of freedom of expression network IFEX and the board of the Trust for The Bureau of Investigative Journalism and is a regular speaker on media freedom issues.
She succeeds Daniel Bruce, who was recently appointed chief executive of Transparency International UK. She will work alongside Rosie Parkyn, Director of Programmes, Europe, who has acted as interim chief executive.
Jodie said: “I am delighted to be joining Internews Europe at such a crucial time for media. Journalists are under renewed threat from governments, funding models are undergoing seismic changes and we are experiencing huge political upheaval across the globe. So it’s vital we have organisations like Internews to provide the support and assistance that means independent media can flourish – even in the most challenging conditions.”
Chair of the Internews Europe Board of Trustees, Mark Stephens, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jodie Ginsberg to head up Internews Europe. She is immensely well respected within the freedom of expression community, and will bring an impressive mix of expertise, experience and energy to the role at a time of significant growth for the organisation.”
Internews President and CEO Jeanne Bourgault said, “At such an important time for Internews, when our work has never been more needed, I’m thrilled to welcome Jodie as Chief Executive in Europe. She brings experience and insights that I know will make our organization stronger.”
