Lifeline radio in Kyrgyzstan

Two journalists look at a computer screenOn 10 June 2010, ethnic violence erupted in southern Kyrgyzstan, leading to hundreds of deaths and displacing an estimated 400,000 civilians. The BBC World Service Trust and Internews are working in partnership to produce rapid-response broadcasts to provide life-saving information to affected communities. Disability and HIV Discussed at Internews Journalism Roundtable in Ethiopia

Many stories were being produced, but coverage of the issue was lacking in background and the voices of people living with disabilities were under-represented. Disability remains an under-reported issue in the Ethiopian media, with many journalists uncomfortable about addressing this issue because of social taboos. More

Listening to Haiti – Six Months Later

Local journalist in an IDP campSix months ago, a day after the January 12 earthquake, Internews put together a team to assist local radio stations to continue broadcasting news and information, which was critical in the aftermath of the earthquake. A few days later, on January 21, the team began producing Enfòmasyon Nou Dwe Konnon (News You Can Use), a humanitarian radio program that provides vital information to Haitians affected by the earthquake. Yesterday, Internews began to reach more Haitians who have been displaced to outside Port-au-Prince through a people-to-people caravan, Koute Ayiti (Listen to Haiti).More
