Roma refugees staying in Moldova are facing greater challenges than other groups to access the information they need to inform decision-making. In this rapid information assessment, done in partnership with ROMNI, the Roma Women’s Platform, and the International Rescue Committee (IRC), we explore the information gaps, barriers, and preferences of the Roma community, recently arrived from Ukraine.
The assessment found that language and literacy are major barriers to free information access. This reliance on other community members to access or translate information can leave Roma refugees in siloed information spaces. Without their own channels, designed for their specific information needs and preferences, community members feel they are unable to freely ask questions, clarify information or contribute to response design.
