Albeit new in the country, Internews has already built strong partnerships with local civil society and media organizations along with government agencies in Malaysia. Our programming responds to and is in-tune with local politics and social development, empowering local communities and marginalized voices.
In 2021, Internews with local partners conducted an Information Ecosystem Assessment (IEA) of Malaysia, the first of its kind in the country to understand information needs, gaps, dynamics, and impact for our target beneficiaries: youths and rural/indigenous communities with emphasis on women. This IEA not only informs our project design, but also became a resource for stakeholders in Malaysian civil society and beyond.
