Steps put in place to contain the spread of viruses or bacteria.
During COVID-19, containment measures have been put in place in most countries to limit or “contain” the spread or transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in areas or communities where it has already taken hold. These measures include lockdowns, quarantine, isolation, and cordon sanitaire.
As seen in several countries including China, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and those in the European Union, containment can be effective to prevent or reduce infections in the short-term but don’t necessarily work longer-term once movement and travel open up again. Many countries that have lifted their lockdowns, have experienced a resurge in cases and have had to re-introduce containment measures.
