Covidpreneur

A new word that is formed by the combination of entrepreneur and COVID-19, used to describe individuals or businesses that thrive and innovate in a pandemic environment.

Covidpreneur has been used both positively and negatively in South Africa. On the one hand, Covidpreneurs are those who have taken advantage of the gap opened up by the COVID–19  to start new legitimate businesses to prevent unemployment. These have included cottage industries involving cloth face coverings and face shields. On the other hand, there have been unscrupulous covidpreneurs who have used corrupt activities to large PPE procurement tenders.
