Screening

A public health measure to identify undiagnosed disease in a healthy, asymptomatic population by means of tests, examinations, or other procedures that can be applied rapidly and easily.

A screening programme must include all the core components in the screening process from inviting the target population to participate in accessing effective treatment for individuals diagnosed with a disease.

Screening for COVID-19 includes answering healthcare worker’s questions, filling out questionnaires, and having temperature measured. If a person is suspected of having COVID-19 he/she will be tested. COVID-19 has had a negative impact on many screening programmes for other diseases as staff and resources have been diverted to dealing with the pandemic. This has potentially led to worse health outcomes for some people who may have not been able to get treatment for other health problems.
