Underlying medical condition

Chronic or long-term illness, which weakens the immune system.

A compromised immune system puts people at greater risk of serious complications of infectious diseases. People with underlying or pre-existing medical conditions or comorbidities like diabetes, cancer, moderate to severe asthma or chronic lung disease and heart problems are at higher risk of developing severe complications from COVID-19 disease. In addition, people who smoke, who are obese and who have poorly controlled HIV/AIDS or Tuberculosis are also considered to be in the high-risk group.
