Internews, en el marco del proyecto Conservando Juntos y alianza con USAID y WCS presenta el documento: “¿Cómo promover el trabajo conjunto entre científicos y periodistas para la conservación?”. Este trabajo presenta algunas recomendaciones y prácticas para promover la comunicación efectiva entre la ciencia y el trabajo periodístico. Además, busca fortalecer la toma de decisiones informadas en la conservación ambiental y destacar la importancia de fomentar colaboraciones sólidas entre la comunidad científica y los profesionales del periodismo. Esto nace de la participación en el Congreso Internacional de Manejo de Fauna Silvestre de la Amazonía y Latinoamérica (Cimfauna), realizado en Santa Marta, Colombia, en noviembre de 2023. Allí más de 30 científicos y periodistas discutieron estrategias efectivas para comunicar los esfuerzos de conservación en la región amazónica; así Internews ofrece este trabajo como resultado de este espacio de debate.
Entre las recomendaciones surgidas de Cimfauna, se destaca la promoción de espacios de debate, el impulso a la capacitación conjunta, y el fortalecimiento de redes que faciliten la interacción continua y productiva entre periodistas y científicos. Estas estrategias buscan no solo mejorar la calidad de la información que llega al público; sino también, aumentar la conciencia y la participación ciudadana en temas de conservación ambiental.
Se abre el debate sobre los desafíos históricos de comunicación entre científicos y periodistas, promoviendo un diálogo constructivo y la construcción de puentes entre estos dos grupos esenciales. La colaboración tiene como objetivo principal brindar al público general información verificada y fundamentada en la ciencia, permitiendo una participación más informada en las decisiones que impactan el medio ambiente y la biodiversidad.
Este esfuerzo conjunto marca un hito en la comunicación de la ciencia y la conservación, abriendo nuevas vías para un futuro más sostenible y consciente.

Together for Conservation Launches New Materials Covering How to Promote Joint Work Between Journalists and Scientists
Internews, within the framework of the Conserving Together project and partnership with USAID and WCS, presents the document: “How to promote joint work between scientists and journalists for conservation?“. This paper presents some recommendations and practices to promote effective communication between science and journalism. In addition, it seeks to strengthen informed decision-making in environmental conservation and highlight the importance of fostering strong collaborations between the scientific community and journalism professionals. This stems from participation in the International Congress on Wildlife Management of the Amazon and Latin America (Cimfauna), held in Santa Marta, Colombia, in November 2023. There, more than 30 scientists and journalists discussed effective strategies for communicating conservation efforts in the Amazon region; This is how Internews offers this work as a result of this space for debate.
Among the recommendations that emerged from Cimfauna, the promotion of spaces for debate, the promotion of joint training, and the strengthening of networks that facilitate continuous and productive interaction between journalists and scientists stand out. These strategies seek not only to improve the quality of the information that reaches the public; but also, to increase awareness and citizen participation in environmental conservation issues.
It opens the debate on the historical challenges of communication between scientists and journalists, promoting a constructive dialogue and the building of bridges between these two essential groups. The main objective of the collaboration is to provide the general public with verified and science-based information, allowing for more informed participation in decisions that impact the environment and biodiversity.
This joint effort marks a milestone in science and conservation communication, opening new avenues for a more sustainable and conscious future.
