Salig Bangsamoro Rumor Bulletin

In the Philippines, Internews’ response is focused on the island of Mindanao, which is facing several coexisting
humanitarian crises that add to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The continuing risk of widespread virus
transmission is of particular concern considering the state of its health care system, a high number of marginalized and displaced individuals residing in the Bangsamoro region.

Working with two implementing partners, The Initiatives for Dialogue and Empowerment through Alternative Legal Services (IDEALS) and the Coalition for Moro Youth Movement (CMYM), RIT Philippines produces a bi-weekly rumor bulletins called “Salig Bangsamoro” meaning Trust Bangsamoro in Maranao/Maguindanao, have three versions catered to various stakeholders. A media bulletin that provides guidance to local journalists, a humanitarian bulletin that provides risk communication and community engagement advise, and a community bulletin that’s catered to the public and is produced in four languages (English, Tagalog, Maguindanaon, and Maranao).

The bulletins are further cascaded to online and on-air engagements, through IDEALS Salig Bangsamoro radio program aired in Marawi and Cotabato city, and CMYMs Facebook live sessions titled Sindaw Ranaw. RIT Philippines also provides support to health and humanitarian organizations through the rumor management platform, that extends technical support and guidance on rumor tracking efforts.
