Internews’ Data Journalism Certification Program in Jordan was the first long-form data journalism training program offered in the Middle East and North Africa and produced the country’s first cadre of data literate local public interest journalists. The training manual produced for the course is now hosted as an open source resource by the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) and is being used to train aspiring data journalists across the region.
Throughout the program, journalists learned to harness data to cover critical issues related to socioeconomic reforms, local governance, and human rights by applying an inquiry-based approach to cover education inequality, violence against women, mismanagement of water and renewable energy resources, unsustainable aid to Syrian refugees and more. Participants used the growing amount of available socioeconomic data (open data) about Jordan to create news and feature content that more effectively engages audiences on topics important to Jordanians. برنامج انترنيوز لصحافة البيانات في الأردن هو أول برنامج تدريبي مكثف (٢٠٠ ساعة) في مجال صحافة البيانات في الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا. أنتج البرنامج أول كادر من الصحفيين/ات المحليين/ات القادرين/ات على استخدام البيانات وتحليلها لإنتاج مواد تهتم بالمصلحة العامة. دليل التدريب الذي تم تطويره خلال هذا البرنامج أصبح الآن متاحاً كمورد مفتوح المصدرعلى موقع شركائنا في شبكة أريج (إعلاميون من أجل صحافة استقصائية عربية) خلال هذا الرابط ويستخدم في تدريب المهتمين والمهتمات بصحافة البيانات في المنطقة. خلال البرنامج، تعلم الصحفيون/ات استخدام البيانات لتغطية قضايا متعلقة بالإصلاحات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، والإدارة المحلية، وحقوق الإنسان من خلال تطبيق منهجية قائمة على الاستقصاء لتغطية مواضيع مختلفة مثل عدم المساواة في التعليم، والعنف ضد المرأة، وسوء إدارة موارد المياه، والطاقة المتجددة، والمساعدات غير المستدامة للاجئين السوريين، وغيرها. استخدم المشاركون والمشاركات البيانات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية المفتوحة عن الأردن لإنشاء محتوى إخباري يعمل على إشراك القراء بفاعلية أكبر في مواضيع تهتم بالشأن العام. اطلع/ي على القصص المدفوعة بالبيانات التي أنتجها المشاركون والمشاركات ضمن برنامج انترنيوز لصحافة البيانات أدناه

The manual was developed by Eva Constantaras with contributions from Reem Al Masri and Amr Eleraqi, in 2019-2020 as part of the Internews’ Data for Change program in Jordan. It is now hosted as an open source resource by Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism.
