Internews in Kyrgyzstan has focused on producing innovative data driven stories and growing local leaders in the field.
Fellows and partner media outlets collaborated through a yearlong mentoring and training process with School of Data Kyrgyzstan to impart the 200-hour certification content to working journalists and mentor them through the production of stories that focused on vulnerable communities including women and girl forced into early marriage, orphans in overcrowded institutions and disabled students receiving substandard education.
Bringing these stories into the mainstream media through data has influenced public opinion and strengthened the public interest mandate of media in the country.
